"Growing Spirit "
The Southwest
United States was first explored by the Spanish with Cabrillo and Ferrelo exploring the Pacific Coast up to present day Oregon in 1542 - 1543.

They began to settle present day California starting with a Presidio (Fort) and Mission San Diego de Alcala near present day San Diego and ending with the San Francisco Solano Mission in 1823, all connected by El Camino Real (today's Pacific Coast Highway).

The Mexican Cession in 1848 brought this region under control of the United States but a strong Spanish influence remains to this day.
